The vote is coming soon - the FCC will vote on the opening up of new frequencies for wi-fi.  Here is a quote from NPR:

The Federal Communications Commission votes Tuesday on whether to open up broadcast airwaves to deliver high-speed wireless Internet access. Tech companies like the idea. But they’re facing powerful opposition from broadcasters, religious leaders and entertainers. source

As for the opposition, broadcasters - I understand that.  The TV market is closing quickly.

Religious Leaders - huh / wtf?  I am totally unaware of god wanting to limit wireless.  I am also not aware of bible references on this topic.  Stupid.

Entertainers?  Well, they are being forced into paranoia regarding a loss in revenue.  Let’s face it, the market is changing and they need to adapt.

Here’s my paragraph on the new-world-entertainment:

Most every type of media is available online either for free or by theft.  The ‘powers’ accept that they can NOT stop this.  Instead the idea of ‘extra content for sale’ and ‘vote with your dollar’ becomes the promissory note.

‘Extra Content’ works like this - the movie is online for free, but if you buy the DVD you will get all the commentary, interviews, and excerpts.  (I would pay for that).

As for Vote with your Dollar - here is goes.  I do not buy much music anymore.  I do not participate in $0.99 / song downloads.  That is giving your money to the highest level of corruption (Apple, Rhapsody, [the new] Napster, etc). So when I buy an album it is a VOTE FOR THAT UNIT.  I only cast about 3 ‘votes’ per year, so those artists should feel honored.
