Or more to the point, Europe is in favor of a roaming cap. This cap is for various data elements and avoid letting the end user get too much bill shock.
This EU effort introduces a retail price cap on the expense of downloads and similar services. I am not here to fill you in on all of the details - that is what the link is for…

The point here is how the world is getting smaller. Much (if not damn close to all) of this comes form the increased digital connections we all share through computers, Facebook, and our mobile devices (to name a few). I think it is pretty obvious that (current) President Bush has invested a lot of energy into decreasing American acceptance abroad. Additionally, it is clear that regulations and a slow moving bureaucracy have done an excellent job at slowing down communication progress.
Look at the speed and cost of broadband in metropolitan (developed) European areas.
So, let’s get on with all of this, here is an initial outline of what we need to do in America:
- Turn all mobile providers into dumb-pipes ASAP and let me get data access and deal with my phone services separately.
- Get IPv6 working NOW. I need an array of static IP addresses yesterday.
- Eliminate the business of long distance and encourage services like Skype to innovate and push the VOIP protocol.
- Place the majority of phone company executives in jail and dismantle the old “Ma-Bell” model and open up the market for better agile management and contracting
- Create intensive regulations for data management of personal information
- Immediately increase observation and regulation of the big companies such as Google and Microsoft. Place them under the same type of regulation we (should) use to control banking. These companies ARE involved in racketeering.
- Limit DRM prosecution collections and let the music and other industries flourish as an art form rather than a platform for executive grifting. At the same time let the A&R and labels (and so on) find an honorable way of generating income.
- Remove the old traditional borders (state and country) for information. They really don’t mean too much anymore.
- Do not put anyone in charge of anything modern who is over 50 years old.
- Let the American auto industry fail and rebuild as the workers see fit.
That is my start. Complain if you want to, but these things are coming anyway.
Before yo complain, look at the open source community and the self regulation and unbelievable accomplishments they have achieved in the past decade.
